Some rooms just have it—the quiet kind of harmony you can feel the moment you walk in. The balance is effortless, the materials speak to one another, and the light hits just right. These are the spaces that linger with us long after the project is complete—the ones that remind us why we do what we do.
In this edition of Designer Diaries, Grace and Emma share two rooms that continue to resonate with them. Both were shaped through trust and collaboration, guided by clients who cared deeply about the details. What emerged are spaces that embody the heart of our work: homes that are as functional as they are beautiful, as lived-in as they are inspiring.
This remodel in Vail began with a simple idea: to capture the intimacy and warmth of a classic alpine chalet, but through a lens of modern livability. The client loved the patina and charm of old-world mountain retreats yet wanted a space that reflected their contemporary lifestyle.
The foundation came together through natural materials — wood, stone, and tactile textiles — layered with quiet precision. Soft, ambient lighting plays across these surfaces, echoing the glow of mountain evenings. Tailored furnishings bring a sense of refinement to the rustic palette, creating a home that feels both grounded and elevated.
“I loved the challenge of leaning into chalet character without making it feel like a theme,” Grace shares. “The texture is rich, the palette is warm, and the space feels lived in yet refined. It carries the spirit of place but still feels modern and approachable.”
Every element in this room earns its place. Nothing shouts; everything contributes. The result is a home that feels deeply personal — rooted in its setting, and quietly full of soul.
Designed as the true heart of the home, this Great Room brings kitchen, dining, and living together in one seamless flow. Each area feels distinct yet connected, defined through proportion, texture, and thoughtful placement. The result is a space that feels generous without losing its sense of intimacy.
A neutral palette provides calm and balance, while bold, natural materials introduce movement and depth. The live-edge dining table adds a sculptural moment, the oversized island invites gathering, and the stone fireplace anchors te entire composition.
“For me, this room captures what a Great Room should be,” Emma shares. “It’s expansive yet welcoming, generous in scale but never overwhelming. Every piece has a purpose, which makes it approachable, polished, and truly meant to be lived in.”
Generosity defines this space — not just in size, but in spirit. It’s a room that invites connection, built for the rhythm of everyday life and the beauty of being together.
These spaces embody what we value most in design: balance, livability, and connection. When materials, furnishings, and flow align with the natural rhythm of daily life, a room doesn’t just look complete—it feels complete.
The best design isn’t only what you see; it’s what you experience. It’s the ease of movement between rooms, the moments that invite gathering, and the quiet pauses that allow for rest.
The rooms that stay with us are the ones that hold real life—the laughter, the stillness, the stories. They remind us that beauty and function aren’t opposites but partners, shaping spaces that feel deeply personal and endlessly lived in.
Every home we design begins with collaboration and care. If you’re envisioning what your space could become, our team is ready to guide the process, layer by layer, into something elevated, cohesive, and unmistakably yours.
